Peters Township School District teachers gathered before 7 a.m. Wednesday to take to the picket lines.

With many of the teachers dressed in blue slickers to combat often-heavy rain, they received a good many honks of support from motorists passing on East McMurray Road.

Groups gathered in front of the district administration building, next door at Peters Township Middle School and across the street at McMurray Elementary School, along with the district’s other buildings.

Talks between district officials the union representing the district’s 285 teachers went on for more than five hours Tuesday before coming to a halt around 11:30 p.m. The teachers could be on the picket line until the end of November. By state law, the district is required to get 180 days of instruction before June 15.
