On 9/11, the Veterans Breakfast Club will meet at the 911th.

Commemorating the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, the organization will gather at the 911th Airlift Wing in Moon Township.

“This one will focus especially on those who have served after Sept. 11, 2001,” Todd DePastino of Mt. Lebanon, the club’s founder and executive director, said.

Meetings focus on veterans relating their experiences.

“We created the Veterans Breakfast Club in 2008 because we loved hearing the stories from World War II and Korea and Vietnam, and we felt that non-veterans like me needed to hear those stories. What we didn’t know is that they needed to tell them,” DePastino explains in a video about the organization’s mission.

The club holds 35 to 40 storytelling events per year, which have grown to include between 50 and 150 attending each. An associated oral history project is Veterans Voices of Pittsburgh, recorded at the breakfasts and stored at the Sen. John Heinz History Center as part of a growing Western Pennsylvania Veterans Archive.

Other upcoming Veterans Breakfast Club events:

• Sept. 19 – Spring Valley, 100 Spring Valley Road, Farmington

• Sept. 22 – Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park
