Peters Township off to fast start in boys’ soccer
Peters Township opened defense of its WPIAL and PIAA soccer titles by edging Sewickley Academy, 1-0, and battling Central Catholic to a scoreless deadlock, 0-0.
The Indians dominated action against SA, scoring all of their goals in the first half. In the opening minute of action, Rex Heuler headed a throw-in from Bennett Faloni into the net. Peters added a second score on a one-time volley by Luke Kelly, off of an assist by Matt Massucci. Fed for a second time by Massucci, Logan Brinsky tacked on the third tally
Before the half ended, Justin Gamble made a great save on a Sewickley breakaway to preserve the shutout. However, the script flipped in the second half and the Panthers fired in two tallies by Matt Teitelbaum and Justin Pryor. In the nets, Gamble finished with six saves.
In the 0-0 double-overtime deadlock with the Vikings, Gamble picked up 11 saves, including two spectacular stops. Sam Lindsay, Jesse Harker and Kelson Marisa also excelled on defense to preserve the shutout.
