Senior Health Fair
Frank Sarris Public Library, Canonsburg, will host a Senior Health Fair 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Oct. 8, with representatives from Consulate Healthcare and Consulate Retirement Village of North Strabane, Jeffrey’s Pharmacy, Washington DME, Southern Hospice and Gateway Hospice. Senior Expo
Rep. Jason Ortitay will hold a free Senior Expo 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 8 at the Senior Center on Millers Run Road, South Fayette. In addition to vendors representing various state agencies, local governments, businesses and nonprofit organizations, there will be refreshments, giveaways, health screenings and prizes. Retired Men meet
Lunch orders are due by Oct. 9 for the next meeting of the Retired Men’s Luncheon Group of Pleasant Hills, set for noon on Oct. 15 in the Fellowship Hall of the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. Magisterial District Senior Judge Pat Capolupo will discuss “Drugs and Alcohol in Our Society Today” and what our judicial system may do to curb the negative effects. Cost for lunch is $7. The Adult Interest Center at Southminster Presbyterian Church, Mt. Lebanon, offers entertainment, information, fellowship and a meal for active, older adults in the greater South Hills community. Programs are held at 11 a.m. Fridays through June, and are free and open to all. Lunch is served at noon for $6. No reservations are necessary. October programs include: Musician Joe Marotta will celebrate Columbus Day on Oct. 9 with Italian favorites. Bill Markus, former chair of the Political Science Department at Duquesne University, will talk about current events in world politics on Oct. 16. On Oct. 23, Dr. Becky Johnen, Ed.D., will talk about the types of changes seniors often experience and strategies to deal with them. Storyteller Alan Irvine returns Oct. 30 for Spooky Stories. Hilltoppers meet
The Hilltoppers of Scott Township will hold its monthly meeting Oct. 14 at Covenant-Community Presbyterian Church. Doors open at 11 a.m. for fellowship. Bring a brown bag lunch to eat at noon. Dessert will be provide and beverage is available. After lunch and a brief business meeting High Society band will perform swing, jazz and standards. Visitors welcome; new members needed. Senior luncheon
Luncheons are held at the Community Recreation Center in Peters Township the second Wednesday of each month, from noon-2 p.m. Entertainment, a speaker or an interactive activity is provided. The event is free, but it is requested that attendees bring a covered dish or dessert to share. On Oct. 14, the event will include Medicare 101, Halloween Bingo and a costume contest. On Nov. 11, a speaker will discuss The Wright House and Early Settlers, and on Dec. 9 a holiday celebration will take place. For more information, call 724-942-5000.
