Upper St. Clair recognizes National Library Week
As part of the April 4 regular meeting, Upper St. Clair commissioners proclaimed April 10-16 National Library Week in the township.
Commissioner Daniel Paoly presented USC Library Director Helen Palascak with a proclamation noting the occasion, and encouraged residents to visit USC’s library.
Palascak thanked the board for the proclamation, telling them that the library was transforming how they provide services. From redesigning collections to digital media and 3D printers, the library is changing with a changing world.
“We’re a place where people can transform their lives,” said Palascak.
Palascak also told the board about changes coming for the library’s non-fiction area, saying they are working to make an open dynamic new design. It will maximize the presentation of the collection through the use of a dynamic floor plan that will feature a modern design with signage on each case will help browsers to quickly find the section they want.
Palascak expects the new bookshelves to be installed in the spring of 2017.
In other business, the board adopted the Allegheny County 2015 hazard mitigation plan. The board also approved a contract for $80,126 for the purchase of five electronic stretchers for ambulances for Tri-Community South EMS.
