Hidden History of Pittsburgh
The Historical Society of Mount Lebanon in collaboration with Mt. Lebanon Public Library presents author Len Barcousky as he discusses his new book, “Hidden History of Pittsburgh,” 7 p.m. May 4 at the Washington Elementary School auditorium.
George Washington’s inauguration was a breaking news story for The Pittsburgh Gazette. Abraham Lincoln’s speech at Gettysburg was covered the day it happened by a Gazette reporter. When African-American soldiers from Pittsburgh returned home after World War I, the story and pictures were on page 1 of The Pittsburgh Gazette Times. At times of national tragedy, Gazette writers have found local angles to bring the story home to readers. Retired Post-Gazette writer Len Barcousky has gathered many of those reports, gleaned from Gazette archives dating back to 1786, in his new book, “Hidden History of Pittsburgh.”
