‘Cut-a-thon’ benefits Dormont Pool

The Olympic marathon just wrapped up in Rio. Now, get ready for the “cut-a-thon” in Dormont.
Several stylists will be at Dormont Pool from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 28, with scissors and clippers in hand, ready to greet folks who want a nice haircut in between swimming sessions.
“People can come up in their bathing suits,” organizer Emily Roman said. “And their hair will already be wet.”
She and others from Sergio’s Style on West Liberty Avenue will bring chairs, stands, mirrors and blow dryers to simulate a salon, all for the benefit of the Friends of Dormont Pool, which helps to keep the nearly century-old facility open each summer.
Roman cuts the hair of Friends member Val Prosser, and the two started talking about fundraising opportunities for the pool. The stylists at Sergio’s previously had done a benefit cut-a-thon, and they decided it would be fun to try a similar event on location.
“They’re all really excited,” Roman said about her co-workers. “They can’t wait.”
