PICT Classic Theatre in the South Side opens its 2016-17 season at Union Project with “Shirley Valentine.”

The one-woman show, starring Karen Baum, tells the story of an “everywoman” on a pilgrimage to find herself, discovering her own wit and independence along the way. The play is written by Willy Russell, author of “Educating Rita,” and is directed by Alan Stanford.

“Shirley Valentine” runs Sept. 1-17, with tickets and season subscriptions available online or by calling the PICT Ticket Office at 412-561-6000.

An opening night celebration will be held at Union Project, 801 N. Negley Ave., Highland Park, following the Sept. 3 performance.
