McMurray re-elected as Peters Township School Board president

Peters Township School Board re-elected its longest-serving member as president during Monday’s reorganization meeting.
Thomas McMurray, who began service on the board in 1983, thanked his fellow members for their diligence during a year that included arriving at a teachers’ contract following a 2015 work stoppage and purchasing part of the former Rolling Hills Country Club property with an eye toward possibly building a new high school.
“We hung together, and we got a lot accomplished,” he said. “I think we’re all excited for what’s coming up next year. We have some financial issues and some property issues, but I’m confident we can work through it.”
Rebecca Bowman, who has been on the board for four years, was elected vice president. She also will serve as the board’s representative to Western Area Career and Technology Center during 2017.
Lisa Anderson will continue in her role as Pennsylvania School Board Association representative. McMurray said he plans to name members and heads of board committees in January, along with a delegate to the South Hills Area School Districts Association.
The board will carry on with its schedule of regular meetings on the third Monday of each month, with some exceptions. Meetings in January and February are on the third Tuesday because of holidays, and December’s reorganization meeting will take place on the first Monday. There is no meeting in July.
For 2016, the board will wrap up business with an education committee meeting on Dec. 12.
