Petersen elected president of USC School Board

With 20 years of experience as a school director, Angela Petersen will be leading Upper St. Clair’s school board 2017.
This will be the fourth time she has served as board president, a position she held in 2001, 2005, and 2008.
Petersen, who served as vice-president of the board in 2016, was unanimously elected at the board’s Dec. 5 reorganization meeting. Amy Billerbeck was elected vice-president. Both terms are for one-year.
USC Superintendent Patrick O’Toole recognized outgoing president Buffy Hasco for her service. O’Toole reviewed some of the district’s accomplishments in 2016, which included adoption of the district’s strategic plan visioning team goals 2015-2020, approval of a new six-year agreement with USC Education Association, and the creation and launch of the Innovation Hub @ Boyce Middle School through private funding.
USC High School also was named one of America’s top high schools by Newsweek magazine, ranking 113th, and was ranked among the top high schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The school district was named among the nation’s Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation.
Also noted was the recognition of Petersen and fellow school director Frank Kerber by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association for their long-term service. Kerber, with eight years on the board, and Petersen received Honor Roll of School Board Service awards.
