Peters Township offers free samples of recreation classes
One of the more commonly heard statements this time of year is along these lines: “Right after the holidays, I’m going to lose weight!”
For folks who want to go the exercise route, the Peters Township Parks and Recreation Department is offering a sneak peek at a variety of fitness-oriented programs for the new year. Starting Dec. 19, free demo classes will be held on seven days during the next two weeks at the community recreation center.
“It’s definitely nice for everybody,” Joshua Werner, facility supervisor for the recreation center, said. “It’s nice for the instructors, because they get to meet some new people and add people to their classes who maybe would not have otherwise.”
The selection includes everything from Eastern disciplines such as yoga and tai chi to kickboxing and full-body workouts. One of the more popular classes is Zumba, which employs a combination of Latin, international and dance music for a fun way to exercise.
“That’s done in the gym, so we can have a lot of people for that class,” Werner said.
Class sizes are limited, but participants can register for as many of the demos as they’d like. Registration for the first eight-week session of 2017 classes also starts Dec. 19.
Also on the schedule are free preschool classes from 6 to 7 p.m., beginning Dec. 20, with a new offering from N Zone Sports, a provider of youth programming. HappyFeet soccer classes are from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Dec. 27 and 10 to 10:45 a.m. Dec. 28. Mommy and Me Bootcamp, for children 5 and younger, is from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Dec. 21.
Classes are open to Peters Township residents and nonresidents. All participants must sign waivers prior to entering class.
