Councilman owes an apology to residents

In response to last week’s article by Suzanne Elliott about the Feb. 22 meeting of Peters Township Council, everyone in attendance was shocked to hear Councilman David Ball treat township residents with such disdain during a discussion of gas drilling in the township.
Councilman Jim Berquist made an observation that 65 percent of people living in a proposed drilling area who had signed leases obviously approved of drilling. Ball’s comment implied that signing a lease didn’t mean they knew what they were doing. That comment got a few gasps from the audience and other council members.
Peters Township residents deserve better than this. Ball owes an apology to the people he was painting as ill-informed or somehow not as bright as him.
