Communications tower coming to South Fayette Township
Following approval by South Fayette Township’s planning commission in May, commissioners approved the application for TowerCo and Verizon Wireless to construct a 150-foot communications tower.
The tower will be located at 700 Millers Run Road, on the privately owned property formerly known as the Campbell Airport, according to township manager Ryan Eggleston.
“It was a pretty remote location,” he said, regarding the difficulty to improve communications without antagonizing residents. “It’s not going to be visible to many people; however, we did notify the residents in that particular area prior to the meetings for approval.”
The idea of a communications tower, which was initiated by Verizon Wireless, includes a land development plan for the 50-by-90-foot lease area. The tower will also be surrounded by a 10-foot fence.
