Painters Run Road construction finishes early

As road construction projects continue to persist throughout the area, one endeavor came to an early end July 11.
The Painters Run Road project, which consisted of the construction of two retaining walls to help stabilize the roadway, finished several weeks earlier than expected.
Mike Dillon, Allegheny County Department of Public Works deputy director, said the accelerated deadline was the result of the contractor, Carman Paliotta Contracting of South Park, putting additional emphasis on getting the project finished.
The construction of the walls consisted of using soldier piles and lagging, a technique that incorporates steel beams and precast concrete blocks, for the $2.35 million project that was supposed to be completed by late August.
The project affected the road through Scott Township, Upper St. Clair and into Mt. Lebanon, causing commuters to find alternative routes during the past several months and creating lengthy traffic backups, especially during morning and afternoon rush hours.
“Painters Run Road sees about 18,000 cars per day, so it’s a highly used road,” said Dillon. “We know a lot of the access traffic went into other local municipalities, and they are extremely happy that this project is wrapped up. It’s also a big connector to rest of the South Hills. We are glad it’s over.”
