USC golfer gets hole-in-one

Dietrick aces hole

Jack Dietrick of Upper St. Clair scored a hole-in-one during an outing at the Mt. Lebanon Public Golf Course. He recorded the ace on the par-3 fifth hole, measuring 95 yards. He used a 9-iron.

It has been a busy summer for the 11-year-old. In addition to attending the U.S. Open, Dietrick plays second base for the USC 11B travel baseball team.

Dietrick, who says his favorite golfer is Jordan Spieth, is the son of Norman and Holly Dietrick. He has an 8-year-old brother, Max.

Flag football/cheerleading

Registration for the Bible Chapel’s Upward Flag Football and Cheerleading is being accepted online at biblechapel.org. Boys and girls in grades K-8 are eligible for the program, which offers one practice and one game per week beginning Aug. 15 at the South Hills campus in Peters Township. Cost is $88, with a $10 discount per additional child.

USC triathlon

A triathlon for children ages 7 to 12 will be held July 30 at Boyce Mayview Park in Upper St. Clair. Fee is $35. The event features swimming, cycling and running. A pre-race madatory meeting will be held at 6 p.m. July 29 at the community and recreation center’s community room. For more details, call 412-221-1099.

BP volleyball

A volleyball camp for girls and boys will be held from Aug. 1-3 at Bethel Park High School. Grades 5-6 meet from 6-7:30 p.m. Grades 7-8 meet from 7:45-9:15 p.m. Fee is $50. Make checks payable and mail to Bethel Park Girls’ Volleyball Booster Club, c/o Theresa Zeiler, 262 Patterson Road, Bethel Park, Pa. 15102.

Shawn Palmer directs the all-skills camp. Palmer has coached the BP high school girls’ team to the WPIAL playoffs the past four years. His 2013 team finished second in the district and third int he PIAA.

PT hockey night

Peters Township Public Library will host “It’s a Hockey Night in Pittsburgh! 1893 to Today” from 7-8:45 p.m. Aug. 3.

The program, created by the Sen. John Heinz History Center, will highlight the city’s rich hockey history from its 19th-century beginnings in Oakland to the Civic Arena and Consol Energy Center. The history also includes amateur hockey with the Yellow Jackets, the minor leagues with the Shamrocks and Hornets, and the NHL with the Pirates and Penguins.
