Zachary Sedor-Schiffhauer was the recipient of the 2016 Bethel Park High School’s Ken Waldie Memorial Scholarship.

Francis Del Percio, representing the Friends of Waldie organization, presented Sedor-Schiffhauer with an $8,500 check. He will use the stipend towards his education at Case Western Reserve University.

A recent graduate, Sedor-Schiffhauer was a member of the Bethel Park High School golf team. An academic scholar, he was in the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society. He also was a class marshal and the school’s 2015-16 Carson Scholar.

The Ken Waldie Memorial Scholarship was created after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. A Bethel Park High School graduate, Waldie was a passenger aboard American Airlines Flight 11, the first to strike the World Trade Center. To celebrate his life, his classmates – Del Percio, Steve McGinnis, Tom Etzel and Terry Crump – initiated the memorial fund to help rising Bethel Park students attend college.

Through fundraising efforts, including an annual golf outing and reunion, the group donates money to the endeavor as well as The Almanac’s Waldie/Shaeffer Scholarship Award. The group has donated more than $100,000 to worthy students.
