The Soul of the Orchestra
Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra presents The Soul of the Orchestra 7:30 p.m. May 14 at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater.
Usually it is the violins and cellos that get most of the attention and you can’t miss the big basses, but it is the middle voices, the violas, that are the soul of the orchestra. Violist David Sinclair will play the Concerto in C minor by J.C. Bach (Henri Casadesus). Other selections include Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld Overture and J.C. Bach’s Artaserse Overture.
The concert will also include a performance of Mendelssohn’s stirring 5th Symphony “Reformation” with Martin Luther’s familiar hymn “A Mighty Fortress is Our God.”
Tickets may be purchased at the door and are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students 13 and older. Children 12 and under are free. Groups of five or more adults pay only $5 per person.
