PT choir performs
On Oct. 15, Rowdy Rhythm, the Peters Township High School Choir, performed at the 2016 Johnny Appleseed District (JAD) Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) Convention and Contest in Cranberry – the only student choir invited to do so. It is being touted this year as the “face of youth barbershop” for the BHS. The event consisted of professional barbershop choirs from four states who attended, performed and competed all weekend.
The choir performed two songs to a standing ovation of professional singers at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School – the first was the choir’s version of “South Rampart Street Parade,” complete with choreography and motions, then “Fix You,” a song they had previously performed at the Rally of America at PTHS on Sept. 11.
That afternoon, the students participated with the professionals at the Mass sing outside Dick’s Sporting Goods in Cranberry. Ron Brooks taught the students tags and choruses so that they could join their voices, with the many professional barbershoppers.
Rowdy Rhythm is being partially sponsored by JAD to attend the BHS Mid-Winter Festival, with the competing professional groups, in San Antonio, Texas, this coming January.
In addition, the new a capella audition class, Room 100 (the stage name given for the Acapella Adrenaline class), made its debut performance with its production of “Don’t Know Why,” originally sung by Nora Jones. This group will go on to compete at the Kettering Festival in Dayton, Ohio, in November.
PMEA Band Honors
Peters Township sophomore Rebecca Schneirov was selected as a member of the PMEA Honors Band earlier this month through a highly competitive audition process. Honors Band is an All-Star ensemble comprised of the best high school musicians in the Pittsburgh area. The ensemble performed a concert on Nov. 20 at North Hills Middle School auditorium.
