Peters Township golfer honored

Connor Schmidt of Venetia was named Colonial Athletic Association’s Co-Player of the Week with Hofstra senior Johnson Ko. The Drexel freshman golfer shot seven-under 137 (67-70) to finish third overall at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational at the par-72 Links at Hiawatha Landing. His seven-under for the tournament was the lowest to par score for a 36-hole event in school history. Drexel tied for first but lost the tiebreaker at the tournament at 11-under. Schmidt has now shot under par in three of his six rounds this fall.
The 2016 Peters Township graduate finished second in school history for low scoring average. A three-year letterwinner, he was his team’s MVP in 2016 and was the 2015 PIAA Western Regional champion. He also won the KPGA Tournament title. His high school teams finished second in the PIAA State Tournament in 2015 and captured back-tio-back WPIAL titles. A member of the National Honor Society and a Magna Cum Laude graduate, Schmidt was recipient of the Reid Marshall Memorial Scholarship.
The son of Aimee and Ralph Schmidt is a business major.
