Upper St. Clair, Peters Township netters to nationals

A four tennis players from Upper St. Clair and Peters Township are competing in the USTA Junior Team Tennis 14U National Championships Oct. 13-16 at the Cyce Tennis Center in South Carolina.
The event brings together the top 32 teams, featuring 250 players, at intermediate and advanced levels from various USTA sections throughout the country.
Eight players, four boys and four girls, comprised the Allegheny Aces, which represented the Allegheny Mountain District during the regionals held at Princeton. Competing against teams from Philadelphia and New Jersey, the Aces finished as runners-up and earned the wild card spot for the national competition.
The team will play five other teams during the tournament, with opening matches against the Carribbean, Minnesota and Atlanta.
The local players featured on the club are Jennifer Grainger, Carlie Hewitt and Anna Rush, all from USC, and Ellian Ascencio from Peters Township. The other members are Evelyn Safar from Wexford, Chase Davidson from Bradford Woods, Tara Thomas, Matthew Prenovitz and Thomas Prichard, all from Erie. John Rush coaches the squad.
