Seniors: Week of Oct. 19
Educational series
Family Hospice and Palliative Care and Home Instead Senior Care will present the third and final programs in an educational series titled “Approaching the Unapproachable: Finding Peace in Preparedness.” The free presentations are held at Family Hospice in Mt. Lebanon. Attend one or both of the programs, which focus on important concerns at the end of life. Light refreshments will be served.
The final two programs are”Funeral Trends: Past, Present and Future,” 4 to 5 p.m. Oct. 20, with speaker Pete McQuillin of the Funeral Consumers Alliance Speakers Bureau; and “Honoring Those Who Served: Veterans’ Care and Assistance,” 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 4, presented by Scott Beinhauer of Beinhauer Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, and Ron Hestdalen, director of the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Senior lunch
Chabad of the South Hills, Mt. Lebanon, will hold “A Taste of Shabbat” seniors lunch at noon on Nov. 30, featuring hot matzo ball soup and lunch. Suggested donation is $5. Wheelchair accessible. For reservations, call 412-278-2658.
Theatrical-minded seniors
Better Than Ever Independents, also known as the Sassy Seniors, is a theatrical group that performs vaudeville-type shows at nursing homes, AARP meetings and more. New members ages 50 and older are needed. The group’s current show is “The Fabulous Fifties.” For more information, email jangary2@hotmail.com.
There will also be a Christmas show, with performances beginning in November.
Chair exercises
Chair Exercises for Seniors takes place from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at Scott Township Library. Space is limited for the DVD-directed program. To register, call 412-429-5380.
