Dispose of unwanted medication Oct. 22 in Peters Township

Peters Township Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public its 12th opportunity in six years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.
During National Drug Take Back Day, Oct. 22, collections will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at these locations:
• Peters Township Public Library, 616 E. McMurray Road
• Giant Eagle, 4017 Washington Road
• Market District Express, 2840 Washington Road
• Heisler’s Market, 601 E. McMurray Road
The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, just pills and patches. The service is free and anonymous.
In April, Americans turned in 447 tons, or more than 893,000 pounds, of prescription drugs at almost 5,400 sites operated by the DEA and more than 4,200 of its state and local law enforcement partners. Overall, in its 11 previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in about 3,200 tons of pills.
