• Special Needs Respite, 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 16. Parents of children with special needs are invited to take some time for themselves. Children and their siblings will participate in activities including a Bible story, crafts and a bounce house, and can meet Lucy, the Bernese Mountain therapy dog. Register online.

Included will be demonstrations and examples of unique ways to use oil, vinegar and other gourmet products to create simple and easy appetizers and desserts. Supper cost is on your own. At Community of Christ Church, Bethel Park, Retired Lt. Commander Todd McIntyre and his wife, Karla, will be the guest speakers at the 10:45 a.m. service Sept. 11. Todd is a 27-year Navy veteran who was injured in a diving accident. A potluck lunch will follow. Bring a dish to share.

At Crossroads Ministries, Finleyville, “Clubhouse Kids” runs from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesdays. Clubhouse Kids is designed with a strategy to shape the character and faith of children ages 3 through fifth grade. At South Hills Church of the Nazarene, Bethel Park, the fall session of DivorceCare Support Group will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 8-Dec. 15. DivorceCare features a video each week prior to discussion with nationally recognized experts on divorce and recovery topics. Seminar sessions include Facing My Anger, Facing My Loneliness, Depression, New Relationships, KidCare and Forgiveness. Cost of $20 includes a workbook. At St. Bernard Parish, Mt. Lebanon, the eight-week Bible study “Follow Me: Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John” will be offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 12 through Oct. 31, in Clairvaux Hall, below the church. Each week, there will be a video presentation followed by group discussion and fellowship. In the eight 30-minute videos, Dr. Edward Sri explains how Christ’s encounters with his disciples, the Samaritan woman, the man born blind and others are examples of how He calls each of us to a more intimate and life-changing relationship with Him. At St. David’s Episcopal Church, East McMurray Road, Peters Township, the fifth annual end-of-summer picnic will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 11. Enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, salads, grilled vegetables, snacks and desserts. Gluten-free and vegetarian options will be provided. Activities will include bounce houses for the kids, as well as games for children and adults hosted by City of Play. At Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair, Taste and See, an invitation to visit the church, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11. Learn of offerings for people of all ages, from nursery school to yoga classes, music concerts to adult education opportunities, support groups to mission trips, and lecture series to child and youth programs.
