Senior picnic
Peters Township Parks and Recreation will hold a senior picnic from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at Peterswood Park, Shelter 4. Picnics include entertainment and a speaker or interactive activity. The theme is Pittsburgh Sports Tailgate; wear black and gold. The event is free, but bring a covered dish or dessert to share. For more information, call 724-942-5000.
Wellness fair
Baptist Homes Society will host its second annual Senior Health and Wellness Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon. The free event will offer a day full of information, entertainment and ideas to help you live well. More than 80 exhibitors will participate, including Julian Gray Associates, American Healthcare Group and Home Instead Senior Care.
The event will feature a mall walk, raffles and giveaways, flu and pneumonia shots, a senior fashion show, Pittsburgh PALS Barbershop Quartet and other entertainment. For more information, contact Sue Lauer at 412-572-8308 or slauer@baptisthomes.org.
High Holiday luncheon
A Pre-High Holiday Seniors Luncheon is planned for noon on Sept. 28 at Chabad of the South Hills, Mt. Lebanon. There will be a special guest speaker, shofar making demonstration, holiday-themed music and honey cake. Suggested donation is $5. Wheelchair accessible. To preregister, call Barb at 412-278-2658.
Seniors in the Sukkah
Chabad of the South Hills, Mt. Lebanon, will offer Seniors in the Sukkah at noon on Oct. 19. Enjoy lunch, music, a chance to shake the Lulav and Etrog, and a special holiday program. Suggested donation is $5. Wheelchair accessible. To preregister, call Barb at 412-278-2658.
Educational series
Family Hospice and Palliative Care and Home Instead Senior Care will present a free four-part educational series titled “Approaching the Unapproachable: Finding Peace in Preparedness.” All presentations will be held at Family Hospice, located on Moffett Street in Mt. Lebanon, with a focus on important concerns at the end of life. Attend one or all of the programs. Light refreshments will be served. The four programs will include:
• “Organ Donation: The Gift of Life,” 1 to 2 p.m. Sept. 20. Katelynn Metz, community outreach coordinator for CORE, will discuss organ donation.
• “A Conversation about Cremations and Celebrations,” 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 3, featuring Christine Crompton, community outreach coordinator, John F. Slater Funeral Home.
• “Funeral Trends: Past, Present and Future,” 4 to 5 p.m. Oct. 20. Pete McQuillin of the Funeral Consumers Alliance Speakers Bureau will speak.
• “Honoring Those Who Served: Veterans’ Care and Assistance,” 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 4. Scott Beinhauer, director of operations for Beinhauer Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, and Ron Hestdalen, director of National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, will co-present.

Chair exercises
Chair Exercises for Seniors takes place from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at Scott Township Library. Space is limited for the DVD-directed program. To register, call 412-429-5380.
