Upper St. Clair student qualifies for triathlon world championships

Amatheon Bohan of Upper St. Clair qualified to represent Team USA at the International Triathlon Union’s World Championships, to be held Sept. 14-17 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The Upper St. Clair senior earned his spot by finishing in the Top 12 during the National Age Group Triathlon Championships held in Omaha, Neb.
Bohan placed 11th in the 17-19 age group. He was the third-fastest finisher among all 17-year-old entrants.
Bohan’s feat was particularly impressive because it was only the second time he had competed in an Olympic distance triathlon. He qualified for nationals at his first competition.
According to its website, Team USA was created by USA Triathlon to be a team of amateurs who will best represent the United States and compete in the International Triathlon Union’s World Championships, which attracts the best athletes representing more than 50 countries each year.
In addition to competing in triathlons, Bohan is a member and captain of the Upper St. Clair High School swim and Ultimate Frisbeee teams.
