Little Lake presents warm and humorous tale of late-blossoming love

Through Sept. 24
‘A Fine Bright Day Today’
Little Lake Theatre Company, North Strabane, announces the U.S. premiere of “A Fine Bright Day Today” by Philip Goulding.
Margaret Harvey and her daughter, Rebecca, have lived together in a small seaside cottage in Great Britain since the death of Margaret’s husband nearly 30 years earlier. When Rebecca decides to move in with her boyfriend, she contracts a lodger, American painter Milton Farnsworth, to share the cottage with Mum.
“‘A Fine Bright Day Today’ is a beautifully written, optimistic play about second chances at life,” said play director Jena Oberg, Little Lake’s artistic director. “No matter how old, how stuck in one’s ways, there is still the beautiful possibility of change.
“Neither Margaret (Patricia Cena Fuchel) or Milton (Keith Zagorski) are looking for love. Both are content with the status quo until life brings them together. As a director, this is the type of play I love to work on. It is full of real and complex characters, interesting relationships, and leaves you feeling great about life,”
Performances are at 8 p.m. Sept. 15-17 and 22-24, and 2 p.m. Sept. 18. Tickets are $18-$20, and $12 for children.
• In conjunction with the play, “A Fine Bright Paint Night” will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 16, instructed by local artist Pam Harrison. Little Lake’s take on “Painting with a Twist,” the painting party will take place in the rehearsal barn. Create your own masterpiece, sip wine then view that evening’s performance of “A Fine Bright Day Today.” Cost of $50 per person, or $30 for subscribers who already have reservations for the performance, includes all painting supplies and instruction on how to paint an iconic Little Lake landscape. Also included will be a complimentary drink and snacks during the painting lesson, and a ticket to that evening’s performance.
