Week 3 Football Highlights
Leechburg at Canevin
After defeating Burgettstown, 31-15, the Crusaders (0-1, 1-1) return to Eastern Conference action when they host winless Leechburg at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at Dormont Stadium.
In the win against the Blue Devils, Maleik Hemingway dominated the ground attack, rushing for three touchdowns on runs of 2, 14 and 25 yards and finishing with 177 total yards.
Kellan Gustine caught two scoring strikes of 35 and 23 yards from Brian DeSchon. Gustine had six receptions for 128 yards. DeSchon completed 9 of 18 aerials for 173 yards.
Uniontown at South Fayette
The Lions are coming off a shutout win against Ambridge, 38-0, as they prepare for this non-conference clash against Uniontown. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 for this homecoming event. The Red Raiders, who are coached by John Fortugna, present challenges for the Lions, says head coach Joe Rossi.
“Coach Fortugna has been around for many seasons and their offense is very multiple and they throw from many different formations so that will challenge our secondary,” he said. “On defense, they operate out of a non-standard 3-5 defense, which we have not faced for a few seasons. They will crowd the box and force you to throw the ball. Our offensive line will be challenged to protect Drew (Saxton). He will need time to find his tremendous core of wide receivers.”
In the Northwest Nine Conference win against the Bridgers, Saxton completed nine passes for 97 yards as the Lions relied heavily on its ground attack.
Geovanie Love rushed for scores of 7 and 1 yards while Joe Mowod and Johnny Beck rolled into the end zone on 2- and 9-yard scampers. Dan Trimbur converted the extra points and kicked a 47-yard field goal. Luke Meindl returned a punt 38 yards for SF’s other points.

Thomas recovered a fumble for a 1-yard TD. Dylan Holland rushed for a 24-yard score. Don Nerone kicked the extra points.

In the loss to Valley, the Rebels jumped ahead, 14-0, thanks to Matt Banbury, but could not hold on for victory. Banbury rushed for a 6-yard TD and hooked up with Nolan Abbiatici for a 33-yard scoring strike. Cullen Vereb kicked the extra points. On the ground, Lionel Deanes rushed for 136 yards.
