The partners of the certified public accounting firm of Goff Backa Alfera & Company, LLC (GBACO), announce the addition of Nancy L. Ankrom as senior consultant in the Tax Department.
Ankrom of Pleasant Hills received her Bachelor of Science from California University and her Master of Accounting from Chatham University. She previously worked for a Big Four firm and specialized in international tax compliance.
Bob and Lori Santo, owners of The Goddard School located at on East McMurray Road in Venetia, have been awarded the Circle of Excellence President’s Club Award by Goddard Systems, Inc. (GSI), franchisor of The Goddard School.
The award acknowledges Goddard School owners for being exceptional in the areas of quality assurance and health and safety and for being in the top 10 percent of Goddard Schools all throughout the country.
The Santos and their team believe that teacher accountability and adhering to health and safety policies and procedures helps to create a great work environment. The Santos also own The Goddard School located on Painters Run Road in Upper St. Clair.
Elizabeth Shedlock, a magna cum laude graduate of West Chester University of PA with a B.A. in English and a newly minted graduate of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Library & Information Science, is the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall’s part-time Children’s and Youth Services Librarian. Shedlock started out in the children’s services department at the Lackawanna County Children’s Library in Scranton, while still a high school student. After graduating from college, she took a job as the Children’s Programming Facilitator at Braddock Library then accepted an internship with the Youth Services Librarian in Oakmont. She continues to work part-time at the Hillman Library while taking on the part-time position at the Carnegie Carnegie.
“The historic facility, with its Music Hall, Lincoln Gallery and Studio, is amazing,” Shedlock said.
On Feb. 8, Shedlock launched a monthly Lego Club. Finally, Shedlock, who is hearing impaired, is exploring developing a monthly reading program with an American Sign Language interpreter. “The program will be for everyone – including me. I’ve never gotten around to learning ASL.”
Shedlock has already met with a high school English teacher from Carlynton, and is eager to develop programs for tweens and teens. She plans on going out into the community to meet people, and encourages parents, educators, caregivers and kids to stop by and say hello between 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
David J. Deitrick, DO, has been nominated to serve as the 2017 president of the Allegheny County Medical Society (ACMS). He is the 152nd president of the local physician organization.
Dr. Deitrick’s father, the late Richard E. Deitrick, MD, served as ACMS president in 1988. This is the first time in ACMS history that two generations have served as president of the society, creating a family legacy dedicated to organized medicine.
Deitrick received his undergraduate degree from Villanova University and graduated from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Mo., in 1993. He completed an internship at St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh and his residency at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn., before returning to Pittsburgh in 1997. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, Deitrick is a member of Jefferson Women’s Health and is on the staff of Jefferson Hospital of Allegheny Health Network.
A member of ACMS since 1990, he served on the board of directors from 2004 to 2011. He was ACMS treasurer in 2013, secretary in 2014, vice president in 2015, and president-elect in 2016, serving on the Executive Committee during that time. He has also participated on several ACMS committees over the years, including the Communications Committee, Nominating Committee, Legislative Committee, Finance Committee and Membership Committee.
At the state level, Deitrick has served as an alternate delegate or delegate to the Pennsylvania Medical Society House of Delegates since 1999. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society Political Action Committee (PAMPAC) Board of Directors for five years.
Deitrick and his wife, Gretchen, reside in McMurray with their three sons.
The Allegheny County Medical Society represents physicians from all specialties and is dedicated to providing leadership and advocacy for patients and physicians. The organization has been serving Allegheny County since 1865.
