The Mt. Lebanon School District was recognized as the top school in the nation – within its population category of 3,000 to 12,000 students – in the 13th Digital School Districts Survey Awards.

After finishing ranked among the top five school districts in the country the past three years, the district achieved the No. 1 ranking for the first time.

The award recognizes and exemplary use of technology by those who govern the district, while having the ability to communicate with students, parents and community to improve district operations.

“This award is the result of the successful collaboration of all elements of our district including instruction and operations,” Superintendent Timothy Steinhauer said in a press release. “But most importantly it reflects prominently on the collaboration between our technology and communications departments.”

It was the only school district in Pennsylvania to be recognized.

The award will be announced and presented at the National School Board Association’s national conference April 25.

The district was also named to the 2017 Best Communities for Music Education designation list from The NAMM Foundation.

The NAMM Foundation, a nonprofit supported in part by The National Association of Music Merchants and its approximately 10,300 worldwide members, recognized the kindergarten through grade 12 music education program that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing music access and education to all students.

“The Mt. Lebanon School District has a long history of supporting the fine and performing arts in our schools,” Steinhauer said. “Our music program is exceptional and is an important element in a well-rounded Mt. Lebanon education.”

The program recognizes the exceptional efforts made by administrators, teachers, parents, students and those in the community who support music education.

“This award is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our teachers and administrators and recognizes their contributions to one of the finest music education programs in the country.”
