Pittsburgh Tartan Day

St. Andrew’s Society of Pittsburgh will once again host its Pittsburgh Tartan Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 22 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Bethel Park.

On April 6, 1320 the Declaration of Arbroath was signed asserting Scotland’s sovereignty over England’s territorial claims. This day commemorates the signing of Scotland’s Declaration of Independence, and is therefore set aside every year by Scottish-Americans to reflect on and celebrate their heritage. On March 20, 1998, the US Senate Resolution 155 was passed declaring April 6 as National Tartan Day. Throughout the country, there are festivals and parades celebrating this day.

Pittsburgh Tartan Day is free to the public. There will be entertainment from bagpipers, fiddlers and singers, as well as highland and country dancers and Celtic workshops (clans and genealogy). Scottish food, raffles and vendors offering tartan gifts and jewelry will be available for purchase.
