Peters Township golfers continue winning ways
Since its inception, only one school has appeared on every Jerry Roman Memorial Chairman’s Cup as Peters Township claimed the boys’ title for the eighth time.
The Indians carded a 377 on the Gold Course at Cedarbrook Golf Course to win the Class AAA title. Peters also won the AA junior varsity boys’ division with a 396.
Matt Petrisin earned medalist honors in the varsity standings. He shot 70. Hunter Bruce and Michael Bell followed with 74s. While Tyler Lawrence supplied a 79, Parker Johnson finished with an 80 to complete the Peters varsity scoring.
Bethel Park, where Roman used to coach and teach, placed fourth in the varsity standings. Vinnie Vituccio shot the low score of 84 for the Hawks followed by Andrew Evans, who entered the clubhouse with an 88. Ryan Meis, Bryan Debald and Lance Chorney also contributed for the Hawks.
For the Indians in the combined AAA/AA competition, Joe Pisarcik led with a 73. Conner Gielarowski and Cade Martin followed with 78s. The trio finished 1-2-3 in the individual standings.
Christian Schreiber and Nick Luniewski added 83 and 84 to the Peters total.
The Lady Indians finished runner-up to Sewickley Academy in the event. The Panthers posted a 349 score while Peters followed with a 396. Ella McRoberts, Sausha Saunders, Cate Deegan and Kaitlyn Magyar combined for the Indians’ total.
Peters had several golfers compete individually. Among the girls were Morgan Byers, Maddie Weaver and Gia Olmo while Andrew Poon, Logan Shaw, Will Burkhardt, Mason Takacs, Ryan Liebscher, R.J. Woeber and Tommy Chang competed for the boys.
The Peters Township boys embarked on defense of their Section 7 title by picking up victories against Canon-McMillan, 189-192, and South Fayette, 200-245.
Gielarowski shot the low score for the Indians against the Big Macs. He fired an even 36 on the Gold 9 Course and Lindenwood Golf Club. Bruce (37), Bell (37), Petrisin (38) and Geoffrey Poon (41) completed the scoring for Peters.
With a 4-under-par 32, Christian Stewart earned medalist honors for Canon-Mac. Nick Karabestos and Taylor Waller followed with 34 and 37 respectively.
Against the Lions, Bruce, Parker Johnson, Geoffrey Poon and Michael Bell all shot 39 on the Front 9 of the Hickory Heights Golf Club.
Luke Lestini and Colby Geary led the Lions followed by Austin Morrison, Jack Evanish and Jake Hanich.
The Indians face their first big test of the season when they travel to St. Clair Country Club to battle Upper St. Clair on Sept. 6. The two WPIAL contenders will meet again on Sept. 27 at Frosty Valley in the Section 7 finale before the playoffs commence.
