Hit-and-run crash knocks out traffic light in Mt. Lebanon

A hit-and-run crash in Mt. Lebanon knocked out the traffic light at Beverly Road and North Meadowcroft Avenue for nearly 14 hours.
Mt. Lebanon police Lt. Duane Fisher said someone driving a silver or gray Honda sedan with a New York license plate crashed into the traffic light’s control box about 7:40 p.m. Nov. 29, disabling the light and causing a small electrical fire.
The driver left the scene, leaving behind parts and pieces, which police attempted to track until they disappeared a few blocks away, Fisher said.
“It limped itself through the neighborhood and left a trail of parts behind,” Fisher said.
Municipal employees and Duquesne Light workers were able to reactivate the traffic light about 14 hours later at 10 a.m. Nov. 30. Permanent repairs will be made to the control box in mid-December. Fisher said damage to the box will cost $30,000 to $50,000 to repair.
Fisher said the vehicle should have damage on the front and left side. Anyone with information is asked to call Mt. Lebanon police at 412-343-4016.
