A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized after suffering from smoke inhalation following a fire in a Mt. Lebanon home Dec. 8.

Mt. Lebanon fire Chief Nick Sohyda said firefighters had to carry the teen from the house at 460 S. Meadowcroft Ave. after being called to the blaze about 9 a.m.

Sohyda said the fire was concentrated to a second floor bedroom, which sustained heavy damage, along with smoke damage to the rest of the upstairs.

He said the teen, who was in a different room, was semiconscious after suffering “significant” smoke inhalation. The boy, whose identity was not immediately released, was taken to UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

A woman and two girls escaped the fire uninjured with two family pets.

The Allegheny County fire marshal is investigating the cause. Mt. Lebanon firefighters were at the scene for about two hours and assisted by firefighters from Dormont, Castle Shannon, Bethel Park, Whitehall and Upper St. Clair.
