• A support group for those who have lost a loved one to the disease of addiction is available at St. Louise De Marillac Parish, Upper St. Clair. The group meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Monday of each month in the conference room in Le Gras Hall. The group is facilitated by a certified counselor, Adrian Miller, MSCP, NCC. This support group, sponsored by the Substance Addiction Ministry (SAM) of the Pittsburgh Diocese, provides those who have lost a loved one a safe place to share and listen to others who are experiencing the same thing. • South Fayette Township is partnering with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to provide monthly distributions of free boxes of nonperishable foods, plus fresh cheese, to qualifying adults age 60 and up who meet the income guidelines. Application must be made in person at the South Fayette Township Municipal Building, located on Millers Run Road, Morgan. South Fayette Township residents and neighbors are welcome to apply. Those having a caretaker or needing someone to pick up their boxes are asked to call 412-221-8700. Forms are available to register a caretaker or proxy. • Mt. Lebanon residents who have expertise to share with their community are encouraged to apply for one of the volunteer boards and authorities that advise the municipal commission. The commission will fill several board vacancies prior to April 1, as many current appointments expire March 31. Interested residents can complete the entire application process online at www.mtlebanon.org/64/Apply-for-a-Board. Residents may apply for any board at any time; applications remain active for two years. Currently there are openings on the following boards: community relations (Ward 4), environmental sustainability, historic preservation, library, pension, planning, sports advisory and traffic. Questions should be directed to the board staff liaisons; their contact information is on the website. Applications are due March 3.

• Thomas Presbyterian Church, Eighty Four, offers a free dinner for the community every first and third Thursday of the month. Doors open at 5 p.m. Dinner begins at 6:30. For more information, call 724-941-3879.

• The Pennsylvania Dental Association announces its annual poster contest for third-graders in celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM). This year’s theme will be “Choose Tap Water for a Sparkling Smile.” Those who participate in PDA’s poster contest will have a chance to win several different prizes. The NCDHM lesson plan kits and contest instructions and rules are distributed electronically to third-grade teachers in Pennsylvania public, private and charter schools.
