USC senior named semifinalist for scholarship
Amna Amin, a senior at Upper St. Clair High School, was recently named a 2017 Coca-Cola Scholar semifinalist, which recognizes academic and civil excellence in their schools and communities.
Amin is one of 77 from Pennsylvania and 1,914 from across the country that was narrowed down from the nearly 86,000 applicants.
“As a premier scholarship provider, we recognize our role in helping young people achieve their college goals,” president of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Mark Davis said in a press release. “The economy continues to affect many students’ ability to attend the college of their choice, so it is critical we continue to stay the course. The semifinalists are truly some of the most accomplished students in the country.”
Amin will join the other semifinalists in submitting their application for review by the Program Reading Committee this month, with 250 students advancing as regional finalists and ultimately 150 becoming Coca-Cola Scholars.
The foundation was created in 1986 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the company and to establish a legacy for the education of tomorrow’s leaders. Each year, 150 scholars are selected to receive a $20,000 scholarship while regional finalists receive – at minimum – a $1,000 educational stipend.
