Mt. Lebanon woman struck, killed on I-79 near Kirwan Heights

A Mt. Lebanon woman died Feb. 10 after being struck by a vehicle while she was walking across Interstate 79 in Collier Township.
Katie Musick, 40, died at the scene after being hit by the vehicle shortly before 6:45 p.m. near the Kirwan Heights/Heidelberg exit, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.
State police said Musick had crashed her car on the southbound exit ramp and then got out of her vehicle and walked across the highway’s southbound lanes.
She was struck in the left lane by a vehicle driven by a 40-year-old Canonsburg woman, who police did not identify. That driver stayed at the scene, police said.
One of the southbound interstate lanes near the interchange was closed for several hours while state police investigated the incident. Kirwan Heights firefighters and paramedics assisted at the scene.
It was not known why Musick was walking across the interstate. No one else was injured.
The medical examiner’s office said Musick died of multiple injuries to her head, neck, torso and extremities. Her death was ruled an accident.
