Bethel Park approves liquor license transfer for GetGo on Library Road

Bethel Park council approved the transfer of a liquor license to the GetGo gas station and convenience store on Library Road at its meeting Feb. 13.
Giant Eagle, which owns GetGo, wants to eventually sell beer and wine at the store. But first, the store will be remodeled to include a small dining area.
Patrons will be able to purchase beer or wine to go, or they can consume up to two drinks on premises with a food purchase.
Pennsylvania relaxed regulations last year, so more convenience stores are looking into selling beer and wine.
In another matter, council agreed to participate in South Hills Area Council of Government’s joint bid for waste collection and disposal services. Bethel Park’s contract for garbage collection will expire at the end of the year. SHACOG will represent up to 15 municipalities in the South Hills when it conducts a joint bidding process later this year. Typically, municipalities sign 5-year agreements with a waste hauler.
Council agreed to apply for a Community Infrastructure and Tourism Grant through Allegheny County for planned improvements to Miners Memorial Park. The grant program is financed through tax proceeds generated through gambling. Municipal officials will learn if the grant is approved later this year and work at the park is slated for 2018.
Council also approved plans for self-storage facilities and offices at two locations on Milford Drive. Guardian Storage will develop the land at 1067 Milford Drive and 2061 Milford Drive.
