After nearly five years as Peters Township School District’s business manager, Vincent Belczyk is leaving to take a similar position.

The school board on Feb. 21 accepted his resignation, effective March 17. He then takes over as business manager for California Area School District, where the board approved his hiring Feb. 15.

Belczyk, who also serves as board secretary in Peters, replaces Julie Mascia at California Area. Her resignation was accepted in January, and her last day is Feb. 28.

A former business manager in Uniontown Area School District, Belczyk is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Belczyk for his fine service for Peters Township School District and for his many years of service with us in this community,” Jamison Hardy, who as chairman of the school board’s finance committee worked closely with Belczyk, said.

Board member William Merrell added: “I would also like to wish Vince the best in his new employment.”

In other business at the Feb. 21 meeting.

• First reading of several district policies with proposed changes took place, with approval expected after subsequent readings.

One policy would be newly adopted, Educational Stability for Children in Foster Care. The document establishes authority:

“To ensure the educational stability of children in foster care, the board requires the district to collaborate with the local children and youth agency and other districts.”

The district’s Homeless Children policy contains additions and substantial changes in wording with regard to authority, definitions, delegation of responsibility and guidelines. A new paragraph provides for professional development and support for school personnel who provide services to applicable youths.

Policies that are subject to revision address public access to the district’s policy manual, graduation requirements, employees’ service on jury duty, conflict of interest with regard to school board members and employees, and rules governing athletic booster and support groups.

• District Judge James Ellis administered the oath of office to new school board member Daniel Taylor, who was appointed Feb. 13 to fill a vacancy. At that time, Thomas McMurray, board president and a notary public, swore in Taylor so that he could take his position with the board for the remainder of the evening’s proceedings.
