Allegheny County police are investigating the death of a man found inside a Bethel Park house Jan 3.

Bethel Park police were called to the home at 5470 Library Road for a welfare check when they found the body of 45-year-old Christopher Baldauf.

County homicide detectives later were called to the scene, although Allegheny County police said they do not consider the death suspicious. The Allegheny County medical examiner conducted an autopsy on Baldauf, but it was not immediately clear how he died, police said.

Investigators said the Baldauf was living with his mother, who was not identified.

A next-door neighbor, Bonnie McElheny, said she had met Baldauf only once but regularly communicated with his mother.

“She was really nice,” McElheny said. “I felt bad for her, so I’d talk to her every time I could.”

McElheny helped with such tasks as cutting grass, pulling weeds and shoveling snow on their shared driveway.

“I offered to help carry packages in, because she had trouble walking,” she said. “But she wouldn’t let anybody in the house.”

Trash could be seen littered across the front yard and the doors to the house were boarded up with “Keep Out” signs posted.
