Canon-McMillan splits decisions

Canon-McMillan won the game that counted but lost bragging rights with a neighboring Washington County school.

The Big Macs toppled Bethel Park, 67-51, in WPIAL Class 6-A, Section 2 boys’ basketball action but dropped a 75-67 decision to Washington in the Chuckie Mahoney Classic.

In the triumph, four players registered double digits: Britton Beachy (19), Jake Davey (13), Carson Miller (12) and Elliott Waller (10). For the Hawks, who trailed 22-5 and 38-14 after two frames, Ryan Meis and Alex Mullen finished with 14 and 10 points.

In the loss, Kenyon Lewis fired in 15 makers, all off 3-pointers. In the defeat, C-M buried 14 threes, including 11 in the first half. Also for the Big Macs, who led, 46-24, at intermission, R.J. Bell (14), Miller (13) and Beachy (10) reached double figures.

Also in the tournament, Chartiers-Houston defeated Bentworth, 80-45. A.J. Myers erupted for 29 tallies while Cam Hanley and Zach Southern supplied 20 and 13 markers, respectively.

PT, Lebo to battle

Peters Township and Mt. Lebanon prepared for their Section 2-A showdown with recent wins. Heading into this week’s action both teams were undefeated in the division at 3-0 and prepared to square off at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at Lebo.

The Blue Devils defeated Connellsville, 67-37, and Bethel Park, 52-36, in league play but succumbed to Allderdice, 44-42, in The Challenge, hosted Jan. 7 at Mt. Lebanon.

In the wins, Mark Lamendola was leading scoring, pumping in 19 points versus the Falcons and 15 tallies against the Hawks, who were led by Alex Mullen and Jake Nuttridge, each with seven points. In the loss, Antonio Garofoli finished with a game-high nine markers.

Meanwhile the Indians defeated Baldwin, 61-47, in league action and Trinity, 66-57, in non-section play. Against the Highlanders, Dax Ploskina chipped in 15 points. He added 11 in the loss. Michael Cortese led all scorers against the Hillers, firing in 22 tallies. Conor Patterson also finished in double figures with 14 points.

In other Section 2 action, Upper St. Clair dispatched Connellsville, 56-33, but lost to Baldwin, 69-39. Mike Hess (16) and Darius Radfar (15) were tops against the Falcons. Kyle Meinert had 14 against the Highlanders.

South Fayette also participated in The Challenge at Lebo. The Lions lost to Vincentian, 74-54. Noah Plack and Connor Mislan led the Lions with 16 and 14 points. In Section 3-AAAA action, however, South Fayette edged Uniontown, 61-59. Plack pumped in 16 points while Matt Thomas and Cam Garland followed with 14 and 11 respectively.

Other action

Chartiers Valley defeated Hampton, 54-37, for its first Section 2-AAAAA victory. In the win, Joe Pipilo racked up 18 points.

Seton-La Salle dropped a 57-51 decision to C.W. North Catholic and Bishop Canevin lost in overtime to Sewickley Academy, 82-75.

For the Rebels, Nick Dean topped 12 points. For the Crusaders, Walter Bonds exploded for 28 points and Eugene Goodwine followed with 24 markers.

Behind the 29-point performance of A.J. Meyers, Chartiers-Houston dispatched Bentworth, 80-45. Cam Hanley chipped in with 20 tallies.
