Bodiography celebrates 15 seasons in Pittsburgh

For Bodiography Contemporary Ballet’s 15th Anniversary Red Carpet Celebration at 8 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Byham Theater, Maria Caruso will present four separate works, two of which will make their Pittsburgh premiere. Lauren Suflita Skrabalak, former BCB principal dancer and Southern rehearsal director, will be in residence in Pittsburgh to assist with these two works: Life Tides, courtesy of Winthrop University, and Parabola, courtesy of Open Door. Life Tides explores the notion of life beginning in water. Initially hidden under fabric, the dancers emerge in flowing full skirts reminiscent of waves, creating a watery landscape. Parabola is a contemporary ballet en pointe utilizing intricate spatial patterns.
In addition, Caruso will reinvigorate her artistically acclaimed choreography from 2005 titled Solace. A barefoot, classical modern work, Solace explores the role caring friends and acquaintances play in one’s life at times of need. To elevate and update the work, Caruso has recruited the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra to play the Arvo Part score live.
Finally, Caruso’s new original work titled Pathways will focus on walking; either directionless and unintentional or with a clear goal in mind, how we move through our lives and whom we meet along the way impact the paths we take.
