Brumfield selected as Mt. Lebanon commission president for 2017

For the second time since being elected to the Mt. Lebanon Board of Commissioner in 2009, David Brumfield was selected to serve as the board’s president for 2017 during its annual reorganization meeting Jan. 3. Brumfield’s first term as president during Mt. Lebanon’s centennial year in 2012 was accompanied by controversial issues, including installing field turf at Middle and Clint Seymour Field – formerly known as Wildcat Field – and the ongoing deer management complaints.
“It was a different time during my first term as president because we had some highly contentious issues that were starting,” Brumfield said. “The president is not in a more powerful position as far as making decisions, which is the most important thing we do. The one point of additional responsibility that you have is being the person running the meetings and making sure everybody keeps things civil. People can speak their mind but we are still entitled to that civility for everyone.”
Keeping that politeness is something Brumfield said both residents and the board have continued to improve upon in his two terms as commissioner.
“Last year, was definitely a continued improvement over the years before and we’re moving in the right direction,” he said. “I’m a little more experienced with these issues now. It’s important for the commission president to stand for other residents, the municipality staff and fellow commissioners.”
