Pedestrian injured in Route 19 crash
An Ohio man was seriously injured Jan. 23 when he was struck by a vehicle while he was trying to stop southbound traffic in the 3000 block of Route 19 in Peters Township.
Michael McGuire, 31, of Wintersville, was not wearing a safety vest or reflective clothing as he tried to stop traffic so a truck could back onto the road at 7:48 a.m., police said. McGuire, who is employed by a crane company, was in the right southbound lane.
Samuel Gracey, 61, of Pittsburgh, struck McGuire. Police said that it was overcast and raining at the time.
Route 19 was closed for about 45 minutes for the accident investigation and to allow a medical helicopter to land. McGuire was taken to UPMC, Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.
Police do not anticipate filing charges against Gracey.
