Crews from several fire departments rescued a man from Chartiers Creek near the seventh hole of Frosty Valley Golf Course off Boyce Road in Upper St. Clair.

Andrew Brams, 32, attempted to cross the creek Jan. 25 as a shortcut to a local convenience store when he got stranded in the deep, quick-moving water, Upper St. Clair police Chief Doug Burkholder said.

Four local fire departments – Fairview, Lawrence, Upper St. Clair and Bridgeville – responded to the call that came in around 9:11 a.m. after a person walking on the golf course heard Brams’ calls for help.

The South Hills Area Council of Governments Technical Rescue Team also provided standby support.

Fairview fire Chief Dan Dernosek said crews conducted a successful boat rescue to pull Brams from the frigid waters about 10:20 a.m.

Brams, who was able to stand on his own after exiting the creek, was hypothermic. He was taken to St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon by ambulance.
