• A Used Book and Jewelry Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 27 and 28 at The Church of the Atonement, Carnegie. On Saturday, the sale will close from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch. • VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) will offer free tax assistance Feb. 1-April 13 at The Bible Chapel, located on Gallery Drive in McMurray. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. Those requesting tax assistance must bring the following with them: last year’s tax return, ID for yourself and spouse, social security numbers and birth dates for yourself, spouse and dependents; all W-2 and 1099 tax documents (including Social Security 1099); 1095 health care statements and property tax receipts. Federal, state and local taxes and real estate/rent rebate applications are prepared. Both spouses are required to sign joint returns. Directions: from South Hills Village, take Washington Road south for 5 miles, right at light onto Galley, 0.4 miles to VITA site. • The Bethel Park School District’s Special Services Department will host an Early Intervention/DART Transition Meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Community Room of the Administration Building on Church Road. Representatives from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s DART Program and the Bethel Park Special Services Department will be on-hand to present general information about the transition process to kindergarten; provide information about special services within the school district; and review evaluation procedures and timelines. Anyone who is interested in attending should call the Special Services Department at 412-854-8735 to register, to ensure there are enough handout materials for everyone in attendance.
• The McMurray Rotary Club is seeking requests from local organizations (Peters Township/Washington County area) for its 2016-17 philanthropies. The club annually assists local organizations in the McMurray/Washington County area. Most contributions are under $1,000, although some are higher. Interested groups should send their request to: McMurray Rotary Club, 2017 Philanthropies, P.O. Box 1291, McMurray, PA 15317. All requests must be received by Feb. 28.
