A Washington County man’s pickup truck was stolen early July 9 when he stopped to help another motorist who crashed on Interstate 79 in Collier Township, state police.

The 54-year-old Claysville man was one of several drivers who came upon the crash of a sport-utility vehicle about 2:30 a.m. when the driver of the damaged SUV asked for a ride to leave the scene, police said.

As the Claysville man was inspecting the damaged SUV, which struck a guardrail while traveling south on the interstate near the Carnegie exit, the other driver got into the man’s pickup truck and drove away. The man ran after his pickup truck and was dragged about 100 feet as he tried to stop the driver, who then exited at Carnegie.

He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of unspecified injuries. Police are now searching for his 2016 Ford F-150 truck bearing a Pennsylvania registration of ZFB-6752.

Meanwhile, the 2016 Kia Sportage involved in the crash was reported stolen out of Washington. Anyone with information on either stolen vehicle is asked to call state police at 412-787-2000.
