LETTER: Murphy’s ‘Day of Civility’ a hypocritical gesture
I cannot help but note the irony of Congressman Tim Murphy, R-Upper Saint Clair, co-sponsoring a resolution to establish a National Day of Civility, which was marked July 12. The occasion was established to bring to mind the importance of “treating everyone with respect and dignity.”
Hmm. I wonder why such a resolution was called for in this era. Could it be that our president is the most uncivil, disrespectful, coarse, crude, vile and profane “leader” ever to pilot our once-great country?
To my knowledge, Murphy has uttered not a peep about the conduct of Donald Trump, which stands in stark contrast to the dignified, respectful appearance and demeanor of the congressman. I can only imagine what Murphy and his Republican cohorts would be saying if a President Hillary Clinton lied about anything and everything, if she stated that she has the liberty to engage in sexual assault against men because she is a star, if she had the number of conflicts of interest that Trump does, if she broke bedrock promises made during the campaign and if she changed positions sometimes within the same sentence.
Tim Murphy’s National Day of Civility should be recognized for what it is, a national day of hypocrisy.
