Steven and the Harts

Folks who schedule events around the time of the Three Rivers Rain – er, Arts – Festival are rolling the dice with the weather.

They came up sevens, though, for the grand opening of the new Peterswood Park Amphitheater, as Saturday’s festivities took place under nothing but blue sky and sunshine.

A performance by Peters Township resident Steven Hart and his power trio, Steven and the Harts, got the stage ready for the main event: Joe Grushecky and the Housrockers.

In between, members of township council and the parks and recreation board joined U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, in cutting a ceremonial red ribbon. Brian Schill, executive director of the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce, lent use of the chamber’s sizable pair of scissors, which were wielded by Councilwoman Monica Merrell.

As a hillside full of guests enjoyed a dose of rock ‘n’ roll, many of them ventured down near the stage to check out of the fare from a pair of food trucks from Oh My Grill and Caustelot Creamery.

The next event at the amphitheater is at 1 p.m. June 11, when See the Summer will perform a late-spring folk-rock set, with a Kona Ice truck ready to greet customers.

That’s also the closing day of the Arts Festival, so we’ll see how the weather dice roll.
