Bethel Park thrower second in the nation

Danielle Konopelski of Bethel Park secured a silver medal during the NCAA Division II track and field championships held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. In the process, she also garnered All-America honors.

A thrower for Queens University of Charlotte, N.C., Konopelski threw a personal best 48.07 meters and placed second in the javelin. Her previous mark of 45.48 meters came earlier this season during the South Atlantic Conference championships. She won the conference title. and she finished first in the Southeastern Regional.

Konopelski had the fourth logest throw in Division II and the 60th longest thorw in the country for all college women for 2017 and she accomplished the feat only a year removed from ACL surgery.

The 5-11 junior has also set personal records of 36.91 meters for the discus and 37.74 meters for the hammer throw. She also set an indoor mark of 9.25 meters in the shot put.

The 21-year-old daughter of Mike and Mary Konopelski is a junior finance major. The 2014 Bethel Park High School graduate owns a 3.6 GPA.
