South Fayette grad earns honors
Ashley Iagnemma was one of four Point Park University softball players to garner All-River States Conference honors. She earned first-team accolades.
The sophomore pitcher posted an 11-8 record with a 1.64 ERA. She tossed 132.1 innings and 14 complete games for the Pioneers. She racked up 155 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .167 average.
Iagnemma earned conference Player of the Week laurels for April 3-9. She tossed a no-hitter to highlight the claim.
During the week, which included going 2-0 in two starts and also picking up two saves in relief, she gave up zero runs in four outings. She threw a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over Cincinnati Christian University. She struck out six in seven innings. Iagnemma also beat Ohio Christian with five shutout innings of two-hit ball in a 4-2 victory. Later in the day, she struck out the side in the seventh inning to preserve a 1-0 win over OCU and earn the save. The week started with a three-inning save against Chatham.
Point Park ended its season 21-21 overall after elimination from the River States Conference Tournament. The No. 4 seed Pioneers (21-21, 11-7 RSC) defeated the No. 4 WVU Tech Golden Bears (15-37, 10-8 RSC), 5-1, in the first round of the tournament before ending its season on back-to-back losses.
Iagnemma picked up the two-hit win in five innings against the Golden Bears. She struck out six and walked one.
Her sophomore success came on the heels of a stellar freshman year. Iagnemma compiled a 10-0 record with a 2.16 ERA, with four shutouts. She led the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 153 strikeouts (133 innings) and walked just 22.
The 2015 South Fayette High School graduate is the daughter of Vic and Stacey Iagnemma of Bridgeville. She earned Almanac Diamond Dozen honors twice. A four-year starter, she finished with 562 career strikeouts. Offensively, she batted .400 for the Lady Lions.
